VIDYARTHI SATTA NEWS
A large number of students took out an awareness rally from the Kadapa RTC bus stand to Seven Roads junction and formed a human chain there under the aegis of Lok Satta's student wing, Vidyarthi Satta, and People Against Corruption (PAC) on Saturday, demanding enactment of a legislation constituting Lok Pal at the national-level and Lok Ayuktas at the State-level.
State president of Vidyarthi Satta P. Sivaji Raju said Parliament was empowered under Article 253 of the Constitution and as per international agreements to enact a common legislation for Lok Pal and Lok Ayuktas to check corruption in the country. He recalled that Right to Information Act was enacted in 2005 although some Chief Ministers did not agree to it.
Referring to Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy's assertion that graft could be checked by the Lok Ayukta, Mr. Raju said political parties were unconcerned about the lack of powers vested in the office of the Lok Ayukta.
In addition, ombudsmen system should be evolved in the districts and Lok Ayuktas given requisite powers to curb corruption, he said. Vidyarthi Satta's Rayalaseema regional coordinator Maram Reddy Srikanth Reddy attributed the present situation to the selfish interests and power-mongering of political parties, which were involving students and ruining their career. Public representatives and JACs of both Samaikyandhra and Telangana regions should ensure that students were not made scapegoats.
